The Council of the Judiciary suspended the judge that hampered adoption of a lesbian

The child had been conceived through artificial insemination two years ago by Vanesa de las Heras.  Susana Meseguer, married to the biological mother, asked for the adoption, but was denied by the judge Ferrín Calamita. The reasons given by the judge were that children should be with a "normal family", with "a father and a mother", going against the law since July 2005 equating homosexual and heterosexual marriages for all purposes, including adoption.

The suspesión the judge has gone ahead with the votes of the members progressive Fernando Salinas, Luis Aguiar and Juan Carlos Campo, all of them appointed by the PSOE.  The voice Fernando Salinas, vice president of the Judicial Council, has served as chairman for the absence of Francisco Jose Hernaldo.

The two members who voted against the conservatives are Enrique Lopez and Carlos Rios.

The standing committee has taken into account the position of the prosecution of Murcia which supported the lawsuit filed by the couple and the other open disciplinary procedure against Judge Ferrín Calamita for using "expressions extravantes" in a car.
