In our experience, 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours is long enough. After that the children have usually had enough! Expect the child to ask lots of questions afterwards, or even, none at all! You may get some difficult
behaviour for a day or two afterwards, but remain calm and relaxed, it will subside.
