How is contact arranged?

With our son we have been meeting with his birth mother for four years now. At first we made the arrangement with his Social Worker from the placing agency (five hours drive away!) The Social Worker brought our son’s birth mother and remained during the whole of contact. Now we make the arrangement directly with his birth mother via mobile ‘phone, e-mail or letter. She does not have our home address or our home telephone number. We can speak to Social Workers from the placing agency if there are any problems. Now, contact is achieved without the involvement of a Social Worker. Well before contact, we send our children’s birth mother’s a letter containing an up to date photograph of the child, together with information about recent events and activities engaged in by the child. It is important that she has this information so that she is prepared for the physical changes which have taken place in the child, and also that she knows something about their life that she can enquire about.
